Started in 1963 with just one physically challenged child, Karuna Gruha is now running its 45th year. Karuna Gruha happened to be the only residential school established for the rural disabled children of Karnataka, for many years.
Physically challenged children from different parts of Karnataka have been given shelter and free education in the Karuna Gruha. They are now working in various capacities in many professional fields. They have demonstrated that they can fend for themselves in an indifferent society and compete at par with other well-endowed people. Children are provided with appropriate medical attention and have been successfully rehabilitated. Thanks to the Polio erradication Drive of the State Govt., the number of physically challenged children is on decline. Hence, Karuna Gruha has extended its services to the socially disadvantaged children by providing basic necessities, education and training in personality development.
The vision and objective of Karuna Gruha (Home of compassion-literally), is to give individual attention to the overall development of every socially disadvantaged child who is sheltered here, and to help him grow in to a respectable and responsible citizen of the society. |
